Elephant Pants

Pants for elephants? Well, yeah, kind of. They’re a real thing but they’re actually for you to buy in order to support the African Wildlife Foundation’s efforts to save elephants around the world. For every purchase (depending on the price of the purchase) they donate $1 or $4.

Their products are all covered in artistic designs which, naturally, are covered in elephants. So, if you’re an elephant lover like me, it’s a gold mine filled with harem pants, tapestries, shorts, rompers, jewelry and more!

The business was created with the help of Kickstarter in October of 2014 by two elephant phans, Nathan and James. Nathan Coleman was inspired by pants he had purchased in Chiang Mai, Thailand during a visit in September 2013. With compassion for the decreasing population of elephants, the two decided to partner with the AWF’s Say No Campaign with the goal to end poaching.

About my purchase:

I bought the “Hattie” pants. They have a high elastic waste, loose legs with pockets and elastic bottoms at the ankles similar to their other pant designs. Each pair has a story. Hattie was from New York City’s Central Park zoo. She was said to be, “the most intelligent of all elephants” so it only makes sense that her style warm and bright hues of orange, purple, teal, and tan. The design makes them comfortable and perfect for yoga. They won’t move around while you’re out adventuring or playing upside down.

The Hattie pants are $25 but I used a code from an ambassador to save 15% use the discount code: KristenL
Also, receive free shipping for purchases over $75!

That’s a good buy. 😉

Alima Pure

If you’re a lover of natural beauty, you’re going to love this.

Alima is a makeup brand that focuses on using the least ingredients with the highest quality. Their pure products are never tested on animals and their packaging is created with eco-friendly soy based inks and 100% recycled paper.

“Our makeup is crafted to help every woman present her best self to the world with confidence. Women everywhere living their lives to the fullest, achieving their goals, making a difference; that is beauty at its most beautiful.” – Alima Pure

Their message is good and their products are better. I have been struggling with acne lately thanks to a hormone pill I had to take for a week. I feel extremely uncomfortable in my own skin while working where people are constantly looking at it, but, my Alima products really make a difference.

When I need to, I can cover up my blemishes without the stress of clogging my pores. I know the products only contain basic minerals and these cruelty free products bring out the best in my face and my investments. I really feel naturally beautiful even on the days that I’ve needed a little extra foundation. It gives my skin a nice glow and feels like a healthy enhancement rather than a caked on mask.

  • 1x Luminous Shimmer Blush – Rosa / Sample for $1.75 each
  • 1x Concealer – Sand / Full for $14.00 each
  • 1x Satin Matte Foundation Samples – Cool 1 for $1.75 each

My purchasing process went very smooth, which is exactly what I felt when I put of my Alima foundation for the first time.

Make up can be hard to order online and that fact is taken into account. Samples of all products are offered at the low cost of $1.75 and they are an amazing value! The only full product that I purchased was my foundation, which was just $14.

I also received an additional product of which I am unsure of, but, like they say, if it’s free, it’s for me! I believe my additional green beauty treat is one of their new eye shadows and I am very happy they sent it. It looks too dark for my taste and is definitely not something I would pick out for myself by any means, but, it goes on so lite and effortlessly that I can actually see myself wearing it.

Overall, I’m extremely happy to add these products to my makeup basket. I feel like my skin can breath but it’s also glowing and looks natural. Obsession can’t quite cover it. Thanks Alima! xo

My Makeup Remover Comes from Coconuts

Coconut oil has a ridiculously long list of uses. I mean the list is like Ted’s narration in “How I Met Your Mother.” I could make this quick and easy by telling you that I use coconut oil for everything, I mean, ev-ery-thing. No joke, but, I prefer making this into 9 seasons.

1. Buy coconut oil. You can find it in nearly any food store. You can spend anything between $5-25. It’s whatever you prefer.

2. Bring it home.

3. Have makeup on your face. Waterproof, thick or tough to take off? No problem. Coconut oil breaks up and releases makeup from your skin from and lashes.

4. Rub some coconut oil between your hands to melt it a little before putting it on your face.

5. SOFT SKIN. Yes, now you’re getting it. Not only is this an affordable but it’s a great moisturizer for your face and especially for the delicate skin beneath your eyes.

6. Use a cotton ball to wipe off your makeup.

7. Be amazed.

8. Give yourself a high five.

9. Leave a comment about how much you love coconut oil and your favorite way to use it.

MY ZuVi PANTS ARE HERE!

WOOH! Finally. My Sail Away pants arrived yesterday.

I viewed my tracking to see what had happened within the 16 days it took for this purchase to actually reach me. They were in “Pre-shipment” from August 7 – August 22. Once they were accepted at the USPS Origin Facility in Anaheim, California, the package only took 2 days to reach my doorstep in upstate New York. Needless to say, I’m disappointed with that 15 day period where my package just sat in Pre-shipment and my emails went unanswered.

Meanwhile, I emailed ZuVi twice and still have yet to hear back. So, ZuVi needs to work on their customer service. This was not a pleasant process.

On the upside, I will say that I LOVE THESE PANTS. I was worried about their comfort due to the fact that they are made from plastic bottles, but WOW. These are some of the most comfortable clothes I have ever worn.

The clothing line takes yarn that was made from recycled plastic bottles and mixes it with spandex. The ratio is 16% spandex and 84% recycled PET.

I wore them to yoga this morning and they felt so weightless and so flexible that I barely remembered I was wearing anything at all. In addition, I received so many compliments already!

There were also an free pare of Blue Crush Shorties which are sold in their store for $38 (same price as my Sail Away pants). I’m not sure if this was an addition due to the shipping problems or what, but, I’m not complaining.

All in all, I love my purchase because the pants are eco-friendly, comfortable and fashionable. They’re more expensive than I usually spend but definitely a great investment as I know I will wear them often.

Natural Hair Treatment

Do you want shiny, healthy, soft hair? These ingredients will fill your mane with vitamins and nutrients that will wash away a lot of the damage you feel when you run your hands through your hair now.

I do this incredible treatment once a week and leave in the mixture for about an hour before shampooing and conditioning.

STEP 1:
Use about 1/3 cup of coconut oil (more or less depending on how much hair you have). Melt it in the microwave and rub it into your scalp and hair.

STEP 2:
Crack open 1 egg, scramble it up in a bowl and then pour in over your head. You’re looking real good right about now, but wait!

STEP 3:
Saran wrap your hair onto your head or use a shower cap. Yeah, I’m serious. You need to lock in all the good stuff to get the best effects.

Here are a few more treatments for more specific needs. I have yet to try all of them but I can say confidently that I’m sure they work!

Lush Cosmetics Against Animal Testing

My best friend gave me these soaps and cosmetics for my birthday this year. It’s safe to say she knows me pretty well! Not only do these cosmetics smell and feel amazing but they also stand up for an extraordinary cause for those without a voice of their own.

Lush is a company that was built on the promise to not test any of their cosmetics on animals. They also refuse to buy ingredients from companies that test anything on animals.

“The reasons for this: One is we don’t believe that animal testing ensures safety. So, we want to think of other things when it comes to safety – other ways of testing,” says Lush Co-Founder, Mark Constantine, “The other one is simply compassion.”

Their policy has been a challenge to uphold. Distributors often change their testing habits, which then result in Lush not being able to use any ingredients from those companies.

It’s not simply a matter of finding ingredients or not. The cosmetic company fights animal testing in other ways such as getting customers involved in signing petitions in hopes to make a difference and save lives of animals.
